| Sanitize your shoes with the SteriShoe® ultraviolet shoe sanitizer:
What is it?
The SteriShoe® ultraviolet shoe sanitizer safely and effectively sanitizes the inside of shoes by using germicidal ultraviolet (UVC) light. It is designed for people who have athlete's foot (Tinea pedis), toenail fungus (onychomycosis), diabetes, chronic shoe odor, and people who are concerned about general hygiene. Each human foot has more than 250,000 sweat glands and sweats up to eight ounces per day. This sweat causes your shoes to become breeding grounds for the fungus and bacteria that cause toenail fungus, athlete's foot, and odor.
Why do I need it?
Small microorganisms reside in shoes and are aided by the hot moist environment. These microorganisms cause infections like athlete's foot and toenail fungus. People who suffer from these ailments are likely to re-infect themselves (even while utilizing medications) when they return their feet to unsanitized shoes.
Furthermore, the American Diabetes Association and the American Podiatric Medical Association urge people with diabetes to be proactive about the health of their feet. Diabetes often causes poor circulation which can lead to loss of sensation. Pain tells our bodies that something is wrong, but when we cannot feel pain, an untreated blister or a sore can develop into a foot ulcer. When left untreated, a diabetic foot ulcer can result in an amputation, and there are about 86,000 diabetic related amputations annually. The SteriShoe® ultraviolet shoe sanitizer is another preventative measure for all people, and especially people with diabetes, to keep their feet healthy.
Is it safe?
UVC has been used as a germicide for decades in hospitals and water treatment systems, and it is clinically proven to destroy microorganisms.
The SteriShoe® ultraviolet shoe sanitizer is the first application that uses UVC inside a shoe. Unlike UVA and UVB, UVC is almost completely filtered by our atmosphere. UVC can be harmful if you look at it for too long or hold it close to your skin. Therefore, two important safety features, a compression sensor and an ambient light sensor, are incorporated into the SteriShoe® ultraviolet shoe sanitizer:
The compression sensor requires that the SteriShoe® ultraviolet shoe sanitizer be in a shoe and slightly compressed. If the SteriShoe® shoe sanitizer is treating a shoe and it is removed from the shoe, the compression sensor will be triggered and the power to the lamp will be stopped. (The heel of the shoe sanitizer is spring-loaded.)
The ambient light sensor allows the SteriShoe® ultraviolet shoe sanitizer to safely be used in open-toed shoes or sandals. The ambient light sensor pre-scans the environment before allowing the SteriShoe® shoe sanitizer to turn on. If the ambient light sensor detects a dark environment, the SteriShoe® shoe sanitizer will turn on; however, if enough light is detected it will not turn on—this is designed to prevent UV light from escaping the shoe.
Two shoe bags are provided in every box so a user can cover their open-toed shoes and sandals to provide a dark environment for the SteriShoe® shoe sanitizer. (Never remove the shoe bag while the SteriShoe® shoe sanitizer is treating a shoe.)
UVC sanitization is far more environmentally friendly than chemicals. Chemical sprays and powders fill the shoe cushioning and there is no way to wash them out of a shoe. Doctors commonly recommend using Lysol to clean shoes, but Lysol's warnings say to not use it on clothing or on direct contact with skin; in a shoe, you are doing both.
The SteriShoe® ultraviolet shoe sanitizer avoids these problems. The SteriShoe® ultraviolet shoe sanitizer is unlike anything else on the market. It is the first safe and effective way to clean the inside of shoes. Back to the top
