Compression Socks - The graduated compression engineering found in the Alex Orthopedic men's compression socks helps to promote muscle recovery through increased circulation. Both athletes and weary travelers will find benefits from men's support socks. These powerful lightweight socks offers improved venous function and increased DVT (Deep Vein Thrombosis) protection.
The key to understanding compression socks lies in their graduated pressure application. Throughout an average day, the body pumps blood to all of the extremities as equally as it can. However, gravity often causes blood to pool in the lower legs and feet, causing circulatory problems such as edema, phlebitis and thrombosis. At the very least, all of this blood pooling can cause fatigue and leg cramps.
Elevating the legs and feet may alleviate the pain temporarily, but it often returns after a few hours of constant standing or walking.
This is where the use of compression socks can be extremely beneficial. Men's compression socks use stronger elastics such as lycra, rubber or spandex to create significant pressure on the legs, ankles and feet.
By compressing the surface veins, arteries and muscles, the circulating blood is forced through narrower channels. The arterial pressure is increased, causing more blood to return to the heart and less blood to pool in the feet. Men's support socks are tightest at the ankles, gradually become less constrictive towards the knees. The soles of compression socks may be heavily padded for better shock absorption.

Men's support socks offer graduated compression where maximum compression is achieved at the ankle and decreases as they move up the leg. This compression, when combined with the muscle pump effect of the calf, aids in circulating blood and lymph fluid through the legs.

It is important that supportwear be worn every day. New wearers should acclimate there legs to the pressure by extending the wear time each day, working up to a full day after about a week. It is also recommended that you have at least two pair of hosiery to rotate. Oils from the skin need to be washed out daily and the hosiery should rest for a day so it can return to its original shape and deliver consistent compression over time. |
